Omujeve Safaris

First class outfit with multiple camps and ranches to hunt. We hunted wide range of areas including large farms that were primarily open and where the hunting depended upon being a good shot, specifically at the south camp where you can expect shots in the 300-400 yard range to their main lodge which was brushier/mountain ranges and shots are in the 100-200 range. Great trophy quality and abundant game. Accommodations were very nice and the staff, meals, and PHs were great. Anything we requested was immediately fulfilled. They cater to a lot of high end/high rolling customers and do it well. This was primarily a spot and stalk hunt or opportunity hunt, several animals were taken from the vehicle so they can accommodate hunters with any health/physical conditions. If you want an easier hunt and want to be catered to and treated like a King/Queen, this is a great choice. Most of the day was spent in a high rack vehicle driving and looking for game and determining what animal you wanted to hunt. It was not unusual to see 5-9 game species at any time in your binoculars and to hunt three species in a single stalk.  We shot a wart hog, 39” Gemsbok cow, 26” Red hartebeest, two Springbok 15 ½ “ and 14 ½”, and 19” (? Don’t remember) Blesbok.

Hawk-eye Safaris

This hunt took place in northern Namibia near the Caprivi/bushman lands. This was very heavy brush and I mean extremely heavy brush but there is also the option to hunt some free range mountain conditions. This was the traditional African safari where you hunted for tracks and then tracked the game down. Jacobus was far and away the best hunter I have ever hunted with and he took great pride in his skill and ability to get you up close and personal with the game. Most shots were in the 80-125 yard range and were tracked down by a traditional bushman/tracker. The lodge was very remote – 6 hour drive from Windhoek with solar powered lights and wood burning hot water heaters but was very comfortable and the food was traditional and outstanding! He also offered river and ocean fishing  and offered sightseeing at the national parks (Estonia). Because the brush was so dense you didn’t see as much game and variety as maybe you would in more open terrain, but they were available including leopard and cheetah which we saw tracks of daily. He also had exceptional bird hunting if you so desired. Most of the day was spent walking. Crystal shot a 22” Impala and I shot a 37” Gemsbok bull.

Completely different hunting styles but each with distinct advantages and I can easily recommend both. Had a great time and can’t wait to go back. Both camps offered wifi internet so you could stay in contact with family.
